Benjamin Jongepier

Vet Student

Growing up in a home with a love of animals but the restrictions of pet allergies, I was surrounded by less common pets such as snakes, hermit crabs, and hamsters. While enjoying spending time with my pets, I always felt like I was missing out on the experiences that came with owning cats and dogs, and cherished any time that I was able to spend with them while visiting friends and family.

I didn’t realize veterinary medicine was the career for me until 2019. After spending some time shadowing veterinarians and reflecting on what I wanted to do after completing a chemical engineering degree, I decided to go all-in and pursue veterinary medicine. Soon after I started working at a cat hospital, and haven’t looked back since. I started at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2021, and am so excited to spend the summer at Manitou helping pets and their people while gaining a ton of experience.

Outside of school and work, I love to rock climb, play and record music, cook, and enjoy the company of our cat Pudge and foster cat Alfie!
